Mainstage Stage Manager / Coordinator — Role Description

Position: ThesCon Mainstage Coordinator
Compensation: $250 stipend
Reports to: Conner Meinhart
Commitment: 3–4 prep calls (fall–winter) + Thu Jan 14 (TBD, likely partial day) + Fri Jan 15 & Sat Jan 16, 2027 (full days)

Purpose
Serve as the single point of contact connecting the two schools bringing mainstage shows to ThesCon with MTSU's Tucker Theatre technical staff — ensuring both schools arrive fully prepared and MTSU has one streamlined contact instead of juggling multiple school reps.

Responsibilities

1. Complete an EDTA background check before the conference.

2. Attend 3–4 prep meetings/calls with MTSU tech staff, participating school directors/crews, and the EDTA board — attendance at these is required, not optional.

3. Study MTSU's Tucker Theatre technical guide and be fluent in the space's specs and limitations.

4. Work directly with each school's director and technical crew to identify their show's needs and reconcile those needs against what the space allows — surfacing conflicts before conference, not on arrival.

5. Be the go-to contact for both schools throughout tech/rehearsal/performance on Jan 15–16, plus a possible Jan 14 walk-through.

6. Troubleshoot in real time during the conference as issues come up.

Ideal Candidate

• Organized, calm under pressure, comfortable being the "adult in the room" for logistics.

• Working knowledge of technical theatre (lighting boards, sound design, stage management, or directing) and fluency in that vocabulary.

• Prior stage management or technical direction experience preferred.

• Able to commit to 3–4 prep calls before conference in addition to the Jan 15–16 (and possibly Jan 14) on-site dates.

Purpose
ThesCon runs on the strength of its day-of staff. We're looking for reliable, energetic volunteers to keep the conference running smoothly across a range of roles.

Responsibilities may include:

• Golf cart shuttle driving (valid driver's license required)

• Lunch check-in attendance

• Workshop room management

• Adjudication support

• Vendor and clinician assistance

• Registration & check-in

• Hallway oversight and crowd flow

• Volunteer supervision

• General festival operations

Requirements

1. EDTA background check required.

2. Ability to commit to at least 1 full day or 2 half-day shifts.

3. Valid driver's license (only required for golf cart shuttle role).

Purpose
We're seeking qualified professional theatre artists to adjudicate at ThesFest and ThesCon, lending their expertise to give Tennessee's up-and-coming theatre students thoughtful, educational feedback. We need strong adjudicators across all disciplines — musical theatre, singing, acting, stage management, lighting design, sound design, costume design, marketing, and more.

Requirements

1. Completion of the free EdTA Adjudicator Training course (EdTA Learning Center) — covers comment and adjudication standards/expectations.

2. Ability to give thoughtful, constructive, educational feedback appropriate for students.

3. Disclosure and avoidance of conflicts of interest (e.g., not judging your own students).

4. For in-person events: EDTA background check and signed consent form required.
